Previously available only to English language speakers, the Accredited Symbian Developer (ASD) scheme now also supports Chinese. Majinate, the company that operates the developer accreditation program on behalf of Symbian, is now making the scheme more accessible to Chinese people by providing the ASD examinations in their local language.

With Symbian having a big share of the smartphone market in China, the move is meant to drive Symbian development by providing programmers with an accessible way to reach a certified level of expertise. Employers, OEMs and other mobile-focused companies will also benefit from this, as they will have a base of accredited developers from where they can easily choose the right person for the job.

"Symbian developers can now ensure an independently verified skill set by taking and passing the ASD exam," David Chun, general manager of China, Symbian, stated. "It’s a great way for the Symbian developer community to show achievement and measure expertise."

Majinate has launched the Accredited Symbian Developer program in partnership with Platomix, a Chinese company, which will provide access to a fully translated ASD exam in China, as well as localized technical support and training. "Symbian developers can now choose whether to take the ASD in English or Chinese. We are proud to offer developers the only independent and objective way to prove Symbian competency," Ian Weston, founder of Majinate, said.

Established in 2005, ASD is an accreditation program for software developers using the Symbian operating system. Candidates receive their certification upon passing an online exam provided via an adaptive testing framework. The examination includes a set of questions covering Symbian C++, which have been fine-tuned over the years in order to provide a high degree of accuracy. The questions originate from a curriculum that is constantly updated to keep up the pace with the latest improvements added to the Symbian platform.
