A new software update is now available for the owners of some of the latest Nokia devices out there, bringing the new Symbian Anna platform to smartphones such as the Nokia C6-01, C7, E7 and N8.

The new OS upgrade was announced a few months ago, when Nokia unveiled new mobile phones running under it, but the update process for existing handsets has started only now.

The new Symbian Anna platform brings a wide range of enhancements when compared to the previous version of the OS, Symbian^3, which was pushed to shelves on the aforementioned Nokia C6-01, C7, E7 and N8 devices starting with the last year.

At the moment, the new software update is being pushed to devices as version 22.014 in a series of markets in Europe and Asia, including the UK, France, and Italy, it seems.

Starting with the next week, more users will receive access to the software update, being able to download and install it on their phones either over the air or via a desktop computer (through the Ovi Suite application).

Some of the main features that the new OS upgrade is set to deliver to end users would include a virtual QWERTY keypad in portrait mode, along with a split screen text input.

At the same time, it will deliver a new web browser, capable of offering increased performance when compared to the previous version of the platform.

Other enhancements would include better security capabilities, a new icon set, and enhanced functionality in Maps.

Nokai C7 users who will choose to download and install the new software update will also enjoy the activation of the NFC chip inside their devices.

However, these are only some of the new features and improvements that the Symbian Anna platform release brings to Nokia C6-01, C7, E7 and N8 smartphones, as there are a wide range of other under-the-hood changes as well, just as reported a while ago.
