The new product can help companies identify the flaws in their web services

The security solutions provider launched a service which will help its customers get a better view on the integrity of their websites, web applications, server software and network ports, allowing them to identify and resolve any weaknesses.

The initial results show that out of the 2000 domains that were scanned, more than half presented vulnerabilities which could have allowed a cybercriminal to take it over.

It turns out that outdated software is still the number one issue when it comes to vulnerabilities, hundreds of such exposures being detected in the first weeks since the service was released.

“Hackers and cybercriminals are constantly refining their attacks and targets; our customers are asking us for agile tools to stay ahead of them,” revealed Fran Rosch, vice president Identity and Authentication Services, Symantec.

“Steps such as offering free vulnerability assessments with EV SSL, Premium and Secure Site Pro certificates show our commitment to protecting customers and the online community as a whole.”

With the vulnerability assessment service, Symantec wants to go beyond what SSL certificates have to offer in terms of protection, giving customers the opportunity to reassure their own clients on the security offered by their sites or applications.

If we consider the fact that companies sometimes lose millions as a result of a data breach, such a tool can easily help them make sure their infrastructures are safe and completely bulletproof in front of attacks coming from the internet.

“I cannot fix what I do not know is broken. It is very difficult to ensure web hosting security without a clear report defining its vulnerabilities. Vulnerability assessments from Symantec are an easy and cost effective method to alert my company of any potential hazards as they relate to security intrusion,” said a manufacturer after testing the service.

The new product will be free for customers who already purchased the Extended Validation Secure Sockets Layer (EV SSL) or Premium and Secure Site Pro.
