Starting with November 2011, Symantec in partnership with Armorize Technologies will make available a cloud-based service which will allow webmasters to keep a close eye on potentially malevolent ads that might infect their websites.

We've recently seen that malicious advertisements are extremely dangerous since they can easily serve rogue anti-viruses. As witnessed in the case of the KAT torrent site, if the OpenX ad platform is compromised, it can infect the computers of users without them having to click on anything.

The new product called Symantec AdVantage will make sure that the publicity banners contained on webpages are clean, in order for customers to be able to surf risk free. On the other hand, companies can also make good use of the tool as in most scenarios, an organization that servers malware loses a lot of credibility in the eyes of their clients.

“Malvertising poses a serious risk to online publishers and their customers, reputation and revenue. Highly publicized malvertising infections can damage the reputation of even the most trusted online sites. Symantec AdVantage will provide ad publishers the tools they need to protect their businesses by fighting back against these threats,” said Fran Rosch, Vice President, Identity and Authentication Services at Symantec.

Armorize is known and respected in the security industry for offering great services, while running one of the most detailed blogs that handles detection and investigation of certain threats.

Not only will the new service detect and point out potentially malicious ads, but it will also teach publishers how to visually detect a fake and identify its source and path.

“Up until now, even the largest publishers do not possess insight into exactly what ads are presenting to their visitors. Symantec AdVantage is the first of its kind to redefine visitor experience analytics,” revealed Wayne Huang, Co-Founder and CEO, Armorize Technologies

"Using the latest malware detection techniques in conjunction with Armorize, Symantec AdVantage traces ad analytics from the visitor perspective and asks the question ‘what do they see’ and expands to questions like ‘what is the quality and security of the content they see’.”
