Victims might end up handing over their personal and financial details to crooks

Experts from security firm Symantec are warning users about spammy Cheltenham Festival emails that attempt to convince recipients to make an allegedly free bet worth £50 ($75 / 58 EUR).

The Cheltenham Festival, or the National Hunt Meeting, is taking place these days in the United Kingdom and considering that a lot of gambling takes place, it’s likely that a large number of internauts will fall for the scam.

The emails usually carry a subject line that reads “Bet on Cheltenham with the Best Odds!.”

Users who click on the links from the advertisements are taken to a website where they’re asked to complete a registration process.

To register on the site, victims are asked to hand over personal information and even financial details, which crooks can use for a wide range of malicious purposes.

If you come across such an email, simply delete it.
