Yesterday, Symantec made significant updates to its mobile portfolio, adding two new products: Symantec Mobile Security for Android and Symantec Mobile Management for Configuration Manager.

“As part of the next stage of their BYOD initiatives, companies worldwide are telling us that they’re looking to increase their adoption of Android devices. We are bringing together a comprehensive set of security and management solutions for this leading platform,” explained Anil Chakravarthy, senior VP at Symantec’s Enterprise Security Group.

Mobile Security for Android offers protection against spam, malware and other types of threats, but it also provides centralized management and reporting functions via the company’s Management Platform.

If you don’t already have an antivirus solution installed on your Android device, now may be a good time to do it, especially since Trend Micro estimates that by the end of the year there will be around 190,000 malicious apps targeting the platform.
