Symantec AntiVirus 10.2 and Ghost Solution Suite 2.0 are two products from the Cupertino-based security developer designed to seamlessly integrate with Windows Vista. While Symantec's position
over the Kernel Patch Protection technology known as PatchGuard integrated in 64-bit editions of Windows Vista remains unaltered, the security company has adapted its products for the upcoming operating system from the Redmond Company.

The Cupertino-based company has announced that Symantec AntiVirus Corporate Edition 10.2, Symantec AntiVirus Enterprise Edition 10.2 and Symantec Ghost Solution Suite 2.0 are all scheduled for availability in December 2006.

"As the threat landscape continues to evolve with more specialized and targeted attacks, Symantec is committed to offering customers best-of-breed security solutions to protect the latest Windows platform," said Brad Kingsbury, vice president of product delivery, Symantec Corp. "Symantec AntiVirus leverages Symantec's unmatched expertise in malicious code protection technology to provide customers with the tools required to effectively secure their enterprise environments."

Symantec AntiVirus Corporate Edition 10.2 and Symantec AntiVirus Enterprise Edition 10.2 will offer support for both 32-bit and 64-bit editions of Windows Vista. Symantec is currently making available a beta version AntiVirus Corporate Edition designed to run on pre-release versions of Windows Vista. The company revealed that it has seen in excess of 70,000 downloads since the beta security solution for Vista has been delivered in December 2005.

Here are some key features of Symantec AntiVirus 10.2:

- Advanced, enterprise-wide virus protection and monitoring from a single management console
- Vista client support
- Integrated Web-based graphical reporting
- Improved protection from spyware and adware, including:
- Spyware repair enhancements automatically block spyware installation
- Stealthed spyware detection and remediation
Improved spyware repairs for invasive risks
Symantec Client Security 3.1

Symantec Ghost Solution Suite 2.0 will also ship in December. The imaging and image deployment solution from Symnantec is designed to optimize Windows Vista Migrations. As is the case with the antivirus products, Ghost Solution Suite 2.0 is compatible with 32-bit and 64-bit editions of Vista facilitating the deployment, migration, and distribution of the operating system.

"Today, organizations of all sizes face the proximate and pressing challenges of managing and securing a mixed Windows environment," said Jeremy Burton, group president, Security and Data Management, Symantec Corp. "Symantec Ghost has historically been the tool of choice for Windows migrations, as well as the industry's preferred corporate imaging and deployment solution. The latest version has the added functionality and ease-of-use needed to help organizations migrate smoothly and efficiently, while its central management console helps organizations drastically simplify management of a diverse desktop environment."

"Windows Vista migration presents a tremendous challenge for most organizations. In order to save critical man hours and IT budget, it will behoove them to automate as much of the migration and deployment process as possible," said Fred Broussard, Research Manager at IDC. "Organizations will require the ability to customize the Vista OS to include their company's corporate applications and security configuration settings, so newly provisioned machines will comply with corporate standards and make it easier for IT departments to manage their Windows environment."
