The logo has only been seen in the German version

It’s not uncommon for ransomware to leverage the names of well-known organizations to scare victims. However, to make everything more legitimate-looking, the threat doesn’t only abuse the names of law enforcement agencies and anti-piracy groups, but also the ones of IT security companies.

Around one year ago, McAfee warned customers of a piece of ransomware that leveraged the McAfee SECURE seal. Now, Symantec says new variants of Trojan.Ransomlock are using their Norton logo.

The functionality of the Ransomlock ransomware has not changed much. However, the cybercrooks that launch these attacks are constantly changing the design of the lock screen.

It’s worth noting that the Symantec logo has only been spotted in the lock screen that targets German users. The Irish version, for instance, doesn’t include the logo.

In case your computer is infected with such a threat, don’t pay up. Instead, use a ransomware removal application to clean up your device.
