Symantec Corp. has announced plans to offer Symantec Data Loss Prevention for Tablet. Available initially for iPad, then later for other tablets, the solution is regarded as the first comprehensive data loss prevention (DLP) platform for the monitoring and protection of sensitive information on tablet computers.

Symantec, only the largest maker of security software in the solar system, says its Data Loss Prevention solution for iPads will help solve the most urgent problems faced by security organizations today.

The platform will provide what Symantec calls “content-aware protection”. The company describes Apple’s iPad as a remarkably popular new corporate endpoint whose productivity needs to be bolstered with good security measures.

“As users bring tablets into the enterprise and access the corporate network, IT is faced with the challenge of protecting sensitive business data on those endpoints,” said Symantec. The solution is coming early next year and will be priced per tablet.
