Norton 360 version 3.0 is by no means the only security solution from Symantec that can integrate with Windows 7. Symantec EndPoint Protection version 11.0 is also capable of playing nice with both Windows 7 client and Windows Server 2008 R2 (Windows 7 Server). According to the company, Symantec Endpoint Protection 11.0.4 can be installed on the Beta development milestones for Windows 7 and Windows Server 2008 R2. At the same time, the security solution will also install and run on builds from the Release Candidate branch of the operating system, but not on the most recent development milestones made available by Microsoft.

“Symantec Endpoint Protection 11.0.4 can be installed on Windows 7 Beta, either 32-bit or 64-bit,” Symantec revealed. “To install MR4 on Windows 7: copy the contents of the Symantec Endpoint Protection folder to your local hard drive or a network share. Run LUSETUP.EXE to install LiveUpdate. Restart the computer. Run SETUP.EXE to install Symantec Endpoint Protection.”

Doug Holland, .NET architect and developer at Intel, revealed that he had installed the Symantec EndPoint Protection 11.0.4014 update on both Windows 7 and Windows Sever 2008 R2 without any issues. In fact, the screenshots accompanying this article are courtesy of Holland, revealing Symantec EndPoint Protection 11.0.4014 running on the testing releases of the next iteration of the Windows Server and client platforms. However, users must understand that Symantec EndPoint Protection 11.0.4014 is designed for the Beta versions of the two operating systems, and that it comes with no support. As Windows 7 development milestones get closer to the fully fledged RC, version 11.0.4014 of Symantec EndPoint Protection will no longer work with Windows 7.

“Starting with Windows 7 build 7057, installing any version of Symantec Endpoint Protection before 11.0.4014 (MR4 MP1a) causes Windows to return the error message, "This program has a known compatibility issue." The installation does not succeed,” Symantec informed on the support page for the security product.

FAIL!

There is one issue Mr. Holland forgot to check.

If you look at the screenshots, you can see that the Network Threat Protection component (aka firewall) is not running. There should be a third row in the Symantec "status" screen that shows the status of the firewall and allows you to select options. So, he is only getting the SEP antivirus component and not the firewall.

Actually, the Network Protection is running, it's not just shown in the status screen

If Symantec Endpoint Protection Network Protection is running, but just not shown, that could explain why my network through put is so low. Windows 7 kept nagging me until I turned on the windows firewall. Is there any way to confirm the Network Protection is running? if so, without it on the status screen how do you make adjustments to the firewall? At this point in time, do I have any workable option other than uninstalling and doing a custom reinstall with the firewall disabled?

I have a problem in installing Symantec endpoint protection on windows 7 professional 64 bit
as during the installation, it rolls back and say that the installation was interrupted.
i downloaded SEP Client Version 11.0.6005.562 and the same issue happens only with win7 64 bit.

i also tried installing live update then restart the system then install SEP but the same issue happens
