Advanced threats are becoming more and more problematic, which is why IT security companies are rushing to release comprehensive security solutions. Symantec has announced a couple of new offerings that will become available in the next 12 months: Symantec Managed Security Services – Advanced Threat Protection (MSS-ATP), and Symantec Advanced Threat Protection Solution.

“There is a significant need in the market for greater advanced threat protection, and many vendors do not have the holistic coverage or full-functionality needed to adequately detect and respond to targeted attacks,” said Jon Oltsik, senior principal analyst, Enterprise Security Group (ESG).

“Symantec is well positioned to deliver an end-to-end advanced threat solution by building on the technologies it offers today, integrating across its portfolio, and delivering it as a service enhanced by an evolving partner ecosystem. By leveraging its global intelligence and building-in completely new incident response capabilities, Symantec can really address a multitude of enterprise cybersecurity requirements.”

Symantec MSS-APT will become available in June. The solution is designed to help organizations to contain, investigate and remediate unknown and zero-day attacks that might evade traditional security systems.

Data breaches often occur because security teams are constantly faced with a large number of alerts and false positives that make it more difficult to stay on top of the situation. However, MSS-APT is designed to prioritize real threats. This way, organizations can focus on what’s really important.

The solution is powered by the company’s Advanced Threat Protection Alliance, an ecosystem that includes Check Point Software Technologies, Sourcefire (part of Cisco) and Palo Alto Networks.

In the upcoming six months, Symantec will launch an incident response service and an intelligence service. The first service will provide access to capabilities, knowledge and skill sets during incident response scenarios. The second will provide threat visibility and analytics to help organizations determine the types of cyberattacks they might be facing.

The Advanced Threat Protection Solution, which will be launched in the next 12 months, brings the aforementioned solutions together to provide customers with everything they need to protect their systems, including email, endpoint and gateway.

The Advanced Threat Protection Solution will be powered by two new technologies: the Dynamic Malware Analysis Service and Synapse. The Dynamic Malware Analysis Service is a cloud-based sandbox environment that speeds up the identification of threats. Synapse is a technology that facilitates improved incident response by ensuring smooth communication between endpoint, email and gateway.

“To successfully defend against the types of targeted attacks we’re seeing today, you need to expand the focus from prevention to detection and response,” said Brian Dye, senior vice president of Symantec Information Security.

“Network security alone isn’t going to solve the problem. Adversaries are targeting all control points from the gateway to email to the endpoint. Organizations need security across these control points working together, with incident response capabilities and global information intelligence, to beat the bad guys. Symantec is bringing that powerful arsenal to market.”
