Sylvester Stallone and “Expendables” cast hit Comic-Con on the first day

August 2010 marks the release of the most hyped B production of recent years: with a cast that any action movie back in the ‘90s would have written history with, “The Expendables” is believed to be the “manliest movie ever” made. Written and directed by Sylvester Stallone, it promises almost dangerously high doses of adrenaline-pumping action and the most impressive cast ever assembled, so it’s almost like this movie is selling itself.

Still, Stallone is also doing his fair share of promoting it, as if the pics, teasers and trailers that have surfaced these past months were not enough to keep interest in it high. As such, he and a few other members of the cast made an appearance at this year’s Comic-Con, where they talked to fans and, as E! Online puts it, showed them what bulging pecs and strong arms should really look like.

“Sylvester Stallone and the burly cast of The Expendables were the big guns Thursday at Comic-Con, where Hall H got a sudden injection of testosterone courtesy of Sly, Dolph Lundgren, Steve Austin, Randy Couture and Terry Crews – the latter of whom took off his shirt to show the geek boys and girls what a real six-pack looks like! Costar Bruce Willis, who repped the Red panel earlier in the day, also popped in as the brawny bunch entertained the audience with raucous clips and tales of errant punches, hospital visits, and the one time that ‘Stone Cold’ Steve Austin accidentally broke Stallone’s neck while filming a scene. Yes, you read that right. He broke Stallone’s neck,” E! writes.

“Speaking of insanity, that’s the cheeky reason Stallone gave when asked why Chuck Norris, Steven Seagal or the Muscles From Brussels himself, Jean-Claude Van Damme, declined to costar in the most action-filled action pic of the year. (Or, as Crews put it: ‘The manliest movie ever made!’) Maybe Sly can fit you into The Expendables 2, fellas?” the same report further says. Indeed, Stallone himself informed his fans at the beginning of the year that he’d sustained a very serious injury on the set of the film, when Austin kicked him so hard that he fractured his neck.

Sly had to undergo surgery immediately and had a metal plate put in. After going public with this, many skeptics doubted that Stallone had been injured this way (saying he couldn’t have possibly gone back to work if he had), which forced the star to post online the X-rays taken on the occasion. As we also informed you back then, Sylvester Stallone really does have a metal plate in his neck.
