It’s the biggest rap collaboration ever – and it’s just as brilliant. “Syllables,” a track featuring Eminem, Jay Z, 50 Cent, Dr. Dre, Ka$his and Stat Quo, has leaked online. You can check it out in the player embedded at the end of the article.

Rumor of this has been making the rounds for a long time in online communities but, somehow, it was never released. Now, as hopes are high it will see the light of day on Dre’s upcoming “Detox,” it’s leaked.

As TheBoomBox also points out, the very strong lyrics (both in terms of message and of the language used) are put on a rather simple and typical of Dre beat.

Eminem opens first, sounding very much like his former alter-ego Slim Shady, which is only one of the many things that give “Syllables” a very distinct old-school feel.

“It is not about lyrics anymore. It’s about a hot beat and a catchy hook,” he says, lamenting the state of the music industry, both pop and rap, where the hits are manufactured based on these two things.

The very thought that message means nothing today seems to make Eminem foam at the mouth, as he launches on a lyrical rampage.

“If we gotta dumb down our style and ‘A-B-C’ and so be it/ ‘Cause nowadays these kids, geez, don’t give a [expletive] ‘bout lyrics,” he says.

“And the DJs playing them hits/ Aww this my jam, this my [expletive]/ We don’t know a word to the song all we know is the chorus/ Because the chorus repeats the same four words for us,” he spits.

Jay Z takes over to do more of the same, followed by Dre himself, 50, Ca$his and Stat Quo. If fans believed such an A-list collaboration would be more stunning for its star-power that its actual sound, they were wrong, TBB writes.

“The performances of each rapper are as colossal as the guest list itself,” the e-zine writes. Even those who are not declared fans of rap admit the collaboration is one of the most impressive of our times – and we’re not talking only about media representatives.

To think that it may have spent years under wraps, TBB says.

“Although it is unclear when the track was recorded, shots at singer Ashley Simpson’s lip synching debacle during a 2007 Saturday Night Live episode suggest that this may not be a new project. The edition of 50, who has beefed with Jay-Z over last couple of years, also hints that the song may not be a recent project,” the e-zine notes.

Below is “Syllables,” check it out. *Please be advised that it contains unedited profanity and graphic language, so discretion is highly recommended.
