Green energy sources will be used for power, heating, cooling and transportation

The city of Sydney in Australia has high chances to soon become one of the world's greenest urban areas.

Thus, Allan Jones, the city's current Chief Development Officer of Energy and Climate Change has announced that, by 2030, the city could be powered by renewables alone.

According to Clean Technica, green energy sources would be used not just to meet the city's electricity demands, but also for power, heating, cooling and transportation.

By the looks of it, Allan Jones hopes that, by said date, 30% of the city's electricity needs will be met by wind, solar and the like. These green energy sources are to be harvested on land just outside the city's limits.

The remaining is to be provided by trigeneration, i.e. a process in which a biomass-fueled plant produces electricity and uses the resulting waste heat to ensure heating and cooling.

Funding for this ambitious project is expected to come chiefly from the private sector.
