Developer Microids has decided to reveal the first ever screenshots from the upcoming third installment in the cult classic adventure series, Syberia 3.

Microids has taken advantage of the increased focus on gaming that comes from this year's edition of the Gamescom trade show being underway in Cologne, Germany, to release the two screenshots, letting the adventure gamers community know that the project is still in the making.

The first work-in-progress images show some hairy, bipedal camels and a pretty crowded bazaar, letting gamers know that the protagonist, Kate Walker, is right where Syberia 2 left her.

She was taken in by the traveling Youkul people, and in the upcoming adventure she will have to learn about their culture by interacting with the tribesmen, who are gathered around a huge, market-like camp.

As the adventure progresses, she will have to guide them in their transhumance journey with the snow ostriches, in an adventure that the developers warn will be much more complicated than ever before.

For the time being, the team has not offered any information regarding the type of story that Benoit Sokal, the writer behind the first two games in the series, plans to create for the upcoming game.

"I'm very pleased to be creating another Kate Walker adventure and working with Anuman Interactive's teams on the project. I created the first two episodes of Syberia with Elliot, so I’m also really happy to be able to create this new one with him and illustrate the evolution of Anuman as a significant player in the adventure games industry," Benoit Sokal said when Syberia 3 was first announced, in November 2012.

Since then, developer Microids has been pretty quiet, and it's definitely a good sign that the game has not been since abandoned.

Syberia is one of the great classics of the adventure genre, an incredible experience that managed to find a special pace in the hearts of many gamers. The first installment in the series was released in 2002, and the sequel, Syberia 2, was launched in 2004.

It's going to be very interesting to see where the franchise takes the story next, as the sequel tied it up pretty nicely, but considering that the main man behind the first two installments is also the creative force behind the upcoming entry in the series, we're bound to be pleasantly surprised.

Syberia 3 is currently looking at a release sometime over the course of 2015, with the intended platforms being PC, Mac, PlayStation 4, Xbox One, iOS and Android.
