Swype, the virtual keyboard that offers mobile phone users the possibility to type faster than before on the small touchscreen displays of their devices, was updated on Symbian S60 5th Edition phones. The new version of the application comes with a nice range of enhancements, and was already made available for download, a recent post on the Nokia Beta Labs reads.

As one can imagine, the new Swype for Symbian version 1.0.13923 is still a Beta flavor, which means that there might still be a series of issues that users will encounter in the application.

Here's what the release notes for the new Swype for Symbian Beta show: - Several crashes have been resolved including those related to backspace - Spanish keyboard properly displays national character - Performance relating to auto-capitalization, auto-spacing and general application speed has been improved - A new language selection dialog has been implemented to improve readability and UX - Rotation no longer reverts Swype back to the default keyboard - Application size has been reduced by 1.5mbs

As stated above, the Swype application is meant to offer users the possibility to type much faster than before. They won't be able to type faster right from the beginning, but they will be able to do so after practicing a little.

According to the guys over at Nokia Beta Labs, those who will download and install the new software solution should provide feedback on it, so as to ensure than any issues are solved in the next release.

“Thanks to your feedback on our last beta release, we are now happy to bring you another update of Swype for S60 5th Edition phones. We'd appreciate it if you would download the new version and continued providing your comments and feedback,” the development team notes.

The software solution is currently available for download with support for the following mobile phones: Nokia 5800, Nokia 5230, Nokia X6 (no portrait mini-qwerty for firmware v21.0.004 - see FAQ), Nokia N97, Nokia N97mini and C6-00.
