A new application was made available for download on Symbian^3-based mobile phones (Nokia N8 and C7 included), none other than Swype, the virtual keyboard that enables users type much faster than before on the small touchscreen displays of their handsets.

Already a highly popular solution on devices running under Google's Android operating system, the virtual keyboard is now available in the Ovi Store for all Symbian^3 handsets.

When installed, the new application replaces the available landscape QWERTY keyboard on these mobile phones with a solution that should greatly improve the typing speed of all users out there.

With the Swype keyboard, one can enter world without having to lift the finger from the screen, as the solution traces one continuous finger path, spelling out the word.

Moreover, the solution comes with a series of other features to ease the typing, including auto-capitalisation and spacing, along with intelligent editing, custom dictionary, and a wide range of other appealing features.

While being able to offer faster typing speeds, Swype won't do everything by itself, and users would need to learn the text entry method, so as to familiarize themselves with the system.

On average, the system should enable users to type around 40 words per minute, though it would all depend on how well one knows the system.

Last month, Nokia started shipping to end users its first Symbian^3-based mobile phone, the Nokia N8, and announced a similar move for the Nokia C7 only several days ago.

This means that Nokia N8 and C7 should already be in users' hands, who should head over to the Ovi Store to search for Swype and download the application on their devices.

Before jumping to the download link, users should know that Swype is not yet available in all markets around the world, and that it offers support for a limited number of languages, including English UK, English US, French, Spanish and Portuguese.

Head over to the Ovi Store to download the application on your PC, or hit this link on your Symbian^3 device to automatically download the application.

Couldn't get Swype from OVI to work on my new N8 so I download SlideIT keyboard from the OVI instead. SlideIT is awesome once you get the hang of it. Definitely a faster way to input text. I'm using it to write this post.
