Switching to Mac?

- Dedicated to those who ditched their PC for a Mac

By: Ilinca Strobel, Editor, Software Reviews

I came across an essay today written by Bill Westerman called 'The Truth About Switching' and I couldn't help recognizing myself in his words. The essay talks about how it feels
for one when switching to Mac in a PC-dominated world. The article is free of "hyperbole, zealots, platform bigots, feature weenies", just true facts that occur when you choose Mac.

I see myself in Bill Westerman's words because, three months ago, I was working as a Windows Editor. The switch was rather abrupt and I'm only now starting to realize the impact this Mac-switch had on me. My home computer is a PC with XP on it (and I won't be trying out Vista any time soon) so I can't say I truly switched to Mac, but I now see both perspectives.

Back to the article, the author says he's been a Mac user for over three years now and, previous to this, he experienced Windows and DOS for over a decade. Bill Westerman has writen down 22 aspects that he experienced and that you, the Windows-ditcher-going-Mac are likely to experience as well.

He talks about how Mac owners feel they're part of a small, exclusive club, where members are always eager to share experiences. He speaks about the hard time you'll sometimes have when you expect your Mac to act as if on Windows (the "damn it!" moments), but also the joy to see it doesn't act as such (the "ah-ha" moments).

Macs are quite a financial investment and Westerman says there will be moments when you wish you hadn't spent all that money, but times like these are scarce and will quickly go away. Any Mac owner knows it's worth the money.

You can find the whole article here and if you get the time to read it, you'll probably be left with a smile of satisfaction on your face, like mine now, along with the sheer joy of being in the Mac club.
