Virtualization expert Parallels Inc. has launched a new piece of software that makes switching to a Mac a breeze. The app costs one buck (introductory price) and it’s now available from the Mac App Store in the Utilities section.

Dubbed Parallels Transporter, the app automatically transfers music, pictures, bookmarks, and various types of documents from your Windows PC to a Mac.

In a nutshell, Parallels Transporter facilitates carrying out the following tasks, according to its makers:

· Access your documents created in Windows right on your Mac. · Find all your files from your PC in the proper folders on your Mac. · Use all of your Windows browser bookmarks in Safari (or any other Mac browser) on your Mac.

The developers say their Transporter app is designed for Mac users who may not need to run Windows on their Mac at all.

It also allows users to save money they’d otherwise have paid to a technician to get the job done, Parallels claims, emphasizing how easy it is to use the tool.

In the official report announcing their new offering, Parallels breaks down the steps Transporter takes to transfer everything from a Windows PC to a system running Mac OS X.

1. Parallels Transporter Agent collects data on your PC and uses your wireless network or an external storage device to transfer it to Parallels Transporter on your Mac.

2. Parallels Transporter on your Mac receives data from the Parallels Transporter Agent and copies it to the appropriate locations on your Mac.

3. The files stored in your Windows home directory are copied to the corresponding folders on your Mac so they can be accessed and used with compatible Mac programs. Internet bookmarks are copied to Safari or any other default web browser in Mac OS X.

In case they’re needed, Parallels Transporter also moves Windows programs and other files into a virtual machine on the Mac, in addition to moving pictures, music and documents to their corresponding Mac folders.

Parallels took this opportunity to also advertise its flagship offering - Parallels Desktop for Mac - just in case customers later decide they want to run Microsoft Windows and Mac OS X (and their respective applications) simultaneously on their Macintosh.
