Ericsson has been selected by Swisscom to deliver an IP Multimedia Subsystem (IMS) solution. The agreement includes a converged core infrastructure network and application, as well as related professional and managed services. Delivery will start during 2007 and the frame agreement will last until 2013.

Under the agreement, Ericsson will provide the full range of its IMS portfolio. This includes an IMS core network, support systems, application servers and integration services. Ericsson will act as prime contractor for the full deployment, which also includes third-party products and services.

The new system will significantly improve the user experience. Swisscom will be able to offer a wide range of truly converged fixed and mobile multimedia services to its residential and business customers.

Patrice Haldemann, Head of Swisscom Fixnet Wholesale, says: "IMS is one of the key elements in our migration into an all-IP network. Most important of all, our customers will benefit significantly from a truly converged multimedia experience for fixed and mobile."

Jef Keustermans, President of Ericsson's Market Unit Northern Europe, says: "We are very pleased to be supporting Swisscom in such a strategically important step. Thanks to our global leadership in IMS, we are very committed to ensuring the professional integration and launch of IMS in the Swiss market."

Ericsson is one of the leaders of the IMS market with 34 IMS system contracts for commercial launch and 70 additional trials distributed around the world.
