More and more research points out that today’s children love technology. More than that, young techies seem to prefer tablets to mobile phones, due to their more diverse offerings and wider screen. For them a tablet is just like a computer you can sit on the couch with.

As a result, a lot of companies these days are interested in rolling out tablet offerings especially tailored to attract young consumers.

This is the case of Swipe Telecom, which has partnered up with HCL to announce the HCL ME Champ on the Indian market. The company has packed in some pretty rudimentary specs which is what you’d expect for a tablet aimed at kids.

The HCL ME Champ offers a 7-inch multi-touch display with a resolution of 800 x 480 pixels. Under the hood, there’s a 1GHz Cortex A9 processor with Mali-400 GPU and 1GB of RAM. Internal memory has been set to 32GB with the possibility of extension.

The slate will come with Android 4.1 Jelly Bean out of the box and offers two cameras, a 3.5 mm audio jack, Wi-Fi, mini HDMI.

And because it’s a kiddie slate, Swipe has also bundled the device with some educational content as it’s the norm with these kinds of things. Children using the tablet will be able to solve Math, Science, Geography, History, Art and Language exercises and tap into the digital eBook library.

And after work, surely there’s play. Kids can watch music videos, listen to music and have access of the TV Morning Cartoons app. Nevertheless, parents hold full control on whatever goes on with their kid’s device and they can restrict certain content and limit the time spent with the HCL ME Champ.

Children and parents can grab theirs for the price of Rs 7,399 / $120 / € 88 from online retailers like Snapdeal.
