Swimmers Share Pool with Thirsty African Elephant [Video]

There is a reason why we keep stating that the expansion of human society will lead to ever more people coming across animals in the most unexpected of situations, not because these animals decide to visit our households, but because our homes are built in the center of their natural habitats.

This video stands as proof of this pressing issue: a full-grown African elephant walks over to the side of a swimming pool, uses his trunk to gulp down some water and then departs, leaving the swimmers wondering what just happened.

Although elephants are generally calm animals, one must not forget that, when startled, they are quite capable of inflicting serious injuries and even killing those they considers a threat to their wellbeing.

Truth be told, the video is likely to raise some giggles, but we stand by our opinion that such human-animal encounters need be avoided at all costs, by implementing conservation projects and not intruding in wildlife territory.
