Swiftech has just launched a product belonging to one of the few device categories, other than optical drives, that give desktop case makers a reason to include more than one 5.25-inch bay.

The device known as Maelstrom 5 1/4” Dual Bay Reservoir is one of the primary components of a liquid cooling system.

While there are all-in-one liquid coolers for CPUs and graphics cards, this one is modular and can be configured to operate either as standalone coolant reservoir or with one or two integrated Swiftech’s MCP35x class pumps.

In fact, four versions of the Maelstrom are up for order: standalone, with single or dual built-in pump(s) and two upgrade configurations for owners of compatible Swiftech pumps.

“When integrated with a single or dual MCP35X pump, the Maelstrom combines stunning looks with extreme performance features” said Gabriel Rouchon, the company’s CEO.

“This unique ability will soon allow us to release new generations of complete liquid cooling kits catering to just about any user preference or case setup. Clearly, users and system builders now have more choices than ever before to configure their liquid cooling systems, and this is great news for the industry.”

In addition to modularity and compatibility with existing pumps, Maelstrom has certain monitoring and operational safety features like coolant temperature display, graduated level, multiple inlet ports, extra-large fill-port, anti-vortex design and UV LED.

All these are packed inside a case with a solid black anodized aluminum face plate and large cutouts.

“I am [...] proud of the fact that Swiftech is now the only company in the world to offer an integrated pump with each major component of a liquid cooling system: with a radiator, the MCR-Drive radiator series, with a CPU waterblock, the Apogee Drive II, and now –at last, with a 5 1/4" bay reservoir: the Maelstrom.”

More information can be found on the product page, where orders can be placed as well, for $89.95 to $279.95 (72.66 to 226 Euro).
