TouchType, the company behind the popular Android keyboard has just released a new Beta version of their SwiftKey application.

The new Beta of SwiftKey for Android tablets and phones brings new features and improvements and fixes lots of issues discovered by devs and users.

However, Swiftkey beta 2.0.2.8 is not yet available for download from Android Market, instead the developer offers the application through its VIP beta program.

Users who signed up to be part of the SwiftKey beta program should have received an invitation in their email to download and try out the latest version of the application.

SwiftKey beta 2.0.2.8 for tablets and smartphones change log is detailed below:

New features (only for tablets):

- installer and setting UIs; - reworked large portrait and landscape layouts; - addition of secondary characters to layouts.

Improvements (for both tablets and phones):

- the keyboard which address several of the typing issues found in the previous release; - the usability of the personalization functionality, particularly with regard to issues with Gmail and Google Apps; - typing accuracy and spelling correction; - status notifications, particularly during personalization; - the usability of the installation process; - the shortcut launcher (particularly in landscape and on larger devices); - the preferences and language settings UI; - general performance, responsiveness and power consumption.

Bug fixes (for both tablets and phones): - Repeated characters (“DoubleDouble”) bugs are now fixed for the most part. There are still some application-specific problems (see Known Issues); - No more flickering on Gingerbread devices; - Web search fields now behave correctly; - Fixed a bug where occasionally the installer got stuck in a loop; - Language states and summaries now update correctly.
