The organization encourages people not to buy new clothes, swap the ones they have

Greenpeace is nothing if not committed to get the fashion industry to green up its ways, even if it occasionally has to resort to badgering to convince one brand or another to embrace sustainability.

Interestingly enough, it looks like fashion brands are not the only ones whose behavior the organization is interested in changing. On the contrary, Greenpeace hopes to also make ordinary folks realize how their wardrobe affects the planet.

Not to beat about the bush, what the environmental group is now asking is that people at least consider the possibility of swapping clothes instead of buying new ones. In case anyone was wondering, the end goal is to reduce waste.

“In the face of throwaway fashion clothes swapping is one of the most environmentally friendly ways to reduce waste, contribute less to the increasing accumulation of toxic chemicals in the environment and upgrade your wardrobe without spending a penny!” Greenpeace says.

Just in case there are people in this world who are utterly clueless about how a clothes-swapping session should go down, the organization has been cool enough to provide some guidelines.

Thus, one must first settle on a date and a venue. The next step is to invite people and make sure that they all know that they are supposed to bring clothes that are clean and wearable. Lastly, just let folks look at the clothes, and pick and choose the pieces they like.

From where I stand, the idea to resort to clothes swapping instead of shopping is at least worth considering. What do you think? Let me know in the comments section below.
