While others are busy looking for the pets various families had to leave behind when fleeing from Hurricane Sandy's path, a group of New Yorkers lent a helping hand to a distressed swan.

As the people who helped rescue this bird explained, the swan was merely standing in the middle of the street and was anything but lively, which was why they saw fit to call in animal rescue.

Using two bed sheets, the animal rescue workers, together with the New Yorkers who found the bird in the first place, succeeded in guiding the swan towards George's Island Park, Ecorazzi reports.

Apparently, the swan decided that, since the storm had already left its plumage quite wet, there was no rush to get back in the water.

Still, those who rescued it hope that, once it starts feeling better, the swan will return to its usual business.
