Suzanne Somers is to mature women what motivational posters are for those looking to lose weight, get healthy, stay committed to one thing or generally improve the quality of their life. At 68, the actress is also a successful author and health guru, and she believes she holds the key to aging beautifully and healthy.

Unlike most celebrities today, Suzanne says she isn’t afraid of ageing and that her career never suffered because of ageism, but that’s only because she uses her age as her “asset.” In short, she’s making money off it, so she has no reason to fear it.

“I sell my age”

Somers’ newest book, “TOX-SICK: From Toxic to Not Sick,” is all about learning how to remove toxins from our life, so that we may lead a longer, healthier existence. It falls under her motto, upon which she built an entire business empire, that “there’s a new way to age.”

She’s been doing hormone replacement therapy for 20 years, eats only organic foods and uses only organic products. The key to a long, healthy and happy life is taking all the necessary steps to make sure your body gets the best of everything in life - and that, Somers tells Huffington Post Live (video at the link), starts with removing toxins from your life.

She says that if we all start doing the things she does today, when she’s 68, we’ll have a guarantee that we’ll “never grow old” and that we’ll stay young “for ever.” We’re to take the “for ever” part at face value.

This is why Somers isn’t afraid of being old. “I sell my age,” she says with a smile. “My age is my asset. There’s a new way to age. What I have at this stage of my life is wisdom like I’ve never had before and perspective and that’s the one thing no young person can have and buy - you have to earn it.”

Showbiz is obsessively focused on youth, especially where female stars are concerned. Somers makes a contrasting note with all that, and she knows that she’s carved for herself a place on the market because of it.

Sleep a minimum of 8 hours, make love

Aside from making sure you eat only the best of foods and remove the toxins in the air you breathe at home (since you have no control of the one outside of the house), Somers also recommends sleeping 8 hours a night and making love regularly as “keys” to a healthy and long life.

Sleeping aids do not ensure a healthy sleep cycle even if they do knock you out for 8 hours, she says. Nature can only work her miracles on your body, fixing the damage done over the day if you sleep without an aid.

As for the regular lovemaking, well, the actress has never shied away from discussing her exploits with her husband. However, she says now, she’s not doing it because she wants to cause controversy, but because she believes a healthy human being is essentially a sexual human being.
