On late Saturday night, Susan Sarandon's Manhattan apartment was broken into and property was stolen, reports the New York Police Department. The actress was not at home at the time of the burglary, but some of her valuables went missing as a result.

People has spoken with local law enforcement agencies and they can now confirm that among the things that were stolen by burglars were a camera, a laptop and some of the jewelry belonging to the actress herself.

Susan Sarandon was not at home when the burglary occurred as she was out of town, but her 22-year-old son Miles Robbins was. Fortunately for him, he had stepped out for the evening at about 8 or 9 in the evening, meaning that the home was empty by the time the robbers came.

When Miles came back around 3 o'clock early on Sunday morning, he found that the home had been broken into and called the police. At the moment, details about the robbery are scarce, but police think that whoever broke into the actress's home gained access through a terrace window or door.

After snooping around the building where the robbery took place, as well as in the adjacent building, police officers say that they found a ladder on the roof of the building, which they believe belonged to the robber, who used it to bridge the space between the two buildings.

Having gained access to the actress's nine-story brick building, the thief or thieves then let themselves in through an open terrace door.

The investigation is made difficult by the fact that there weren't any witnesses, any persons who can give a vague description of the suspect, nor is there any security footage, as there are no cameras on the roof of the building in question.

The estimated damage following the theft is around $100,000 (€74,430) and it's mostly because of Sarandon's jewelry that the thieves were able to make off with that much loot.

Though the actress wasn't at home at the time of the burglary, one of her neighbors called her after the police arrived on scene and told her about the break-in. An investigation has been started into the matter, but with little evidence to go on, it's unlikely that the thieves will be caught anytime soon.

The “Thelma & Louise” actress has yet to issue a comment, and a request sent to her spokesperson about the incident has so far remained unanswered.
