Actress talks about growing old in the industry, the price to be paid

There's really no denying that Susan Sarandon looks amazing. At 65 years old, she can still do sensual roles, and refuses to be typecast as a mother or a grandmother, but she admits it would have probably not been possible without a little help from the plastic surgeon.

In a new interview with the print issue of People magazine (additional quotes via StarPulse), the actress admits to having had some work done.

She says it's hard to age in an industry that places so much emphasis on looks; the same industry that let her know, at 40, that she was “done.”

However, Susan draws the line at the amount of surgery you can get: once you start looking like someone else, you've gone too far.

“I've had some lipo under my chin and under my eyes,” she says.

Sarandon would also consider getting Botox, but only on the condition that she trusted the doctor completely. She can't afford to have a “frozen” face, not in her line of work.

“I have these two huge frown lines here (on my forehead). But if you can't move your face or you're unrecognizable, I don't see how that's a productive enhancement,” she says.

“You don't want to look like a female impersonation of yourself,” the actress adds.

In the same interview, Susan admits there's a lot of pressure on actresses to look a certain way, which would probably explain why so many of them go completely overboard with surgery.

“It's true there aren't that many good parts. I've had my disappointments. It's hard to be in this business and not be an alcoholic or a drug addict or bitter as an older woman,” she says.

For her, keeping a clear head is constant work, but she's doing it just fine.

Susan Sarandon's revelation might surprise many, but it's already being embraced as quite a brave gesture on her part, especially in a context in which the most obviously tweaked stars deny they've ever had anything done.
