A little over half a year ago, few knew who Susan Boyle was – even fewer probably had any idea of what she would become in just a few months’ time and of the kind of admiration and support she would enjoy from fans all over the world. As a confirmation of said love and support, Susan Boyle’s debut album, “I Dreamed a Dream,” has just set a new official record for most pre-sale orders on Amazon.com, the Telegraph informs.

The album is not yet due until November 23 but, still, it has been wreaking havoc in online charts for many weeks now, meaning the moment it became available for pre-order to fans worldwide. Thus, within just days of its being made available, “I Dreamed a Dream” became the hottest material on Amazon.com, surpassing even the likes of consecrated artists like Whitney Houston and the Beatles. That in itself is not a small feat for a newcomer, no matter how talented, music critics said back then.

“Just eight months ago, no one was aware of the talents of Susan Boyle. Now, she has generated more Amazon pre-order CD sales globally than any other artist. That is an incredible achievement and is testament to the fact that she has captured the hearts of people all over Britain, America and the rest of the world,” Julian Monaghan, head of music buying at Amazon.co.uk says for the Telegraph.

Steve Barnett, chairman of Columbia Records, agrees on that Susan Boyle is an artist like the world has not seen in many years. “One of the things that is so unique about Susan Boyle is her ability to touch people around the world. We’re excited that ‘I Dreamed a Dream’ holds the new record for global pre-orders and that Amazon’s customers have supported her album in this way,” Barnett adds.

The other albums to have enjoyed similar success – only to a lesser degree – on Amazon.com prior to physical release include “Supermarket Fantasy” (2008, Japan) from Mr. Children, “Ken Hirai 10th Anniversary Complete Single Collection, ‘95-‘05” (2005, Japan) from Ken Hirai, “Not Too Late” (2007, US) from Norah Jones, and “Never Forget: The Ultimate Collection” (2008. UK) from boyband Take That.
