November turned out to be a very busy month musically. Adam Lambert, Lady Gaga, and Rihanna are all set to release albums in this period (or have done so already), so it’s almost understandable if one forgets that Susan Boyle too has her first album ever coming out this month. Luckily for fans, she’s not about to let that happen, reminding them just why they fell in love with her in the first place with an astonishing mini-concert on Monday morning, as the Telegraph can confirm.
It was early and cold when Susan Boyle took to the stage set up in Rockefeller Centre, New York, for The Today Show. As early and cold as it was though, fans still rushed to see their idol perform three songs off her first album, “I Dreamed a Dream,” including the title song – and also the one that made her an international superstar –, “Wild Horses” and “Cry Me a River.” As the videos below show, it was truly one show to remember.
On Sunday, when she landed in the US, Susan Boyle was greeted by such a large crowd that bodyguards had literally to put in extra effort to make way for her through the fans and to the waiting limousine. However, she was excited, albeit a bit worn out, reports say. Fortunately, none of that was noted in her performance on The Today Show, which managed to impress for clarity, strength, and sincerity, with most fans gathered to see her being moved almost to tears by the beautiful voice of the “Angel.”
“I’ve grown up a bit. I’ve become more of a lady. I don’t swivel my hips as much, you know? It feels very surreal, as if it’s not really happening.” the singer said while on the show. As for including a cover of Madonna’s “You’ll See” on the album as well, the explanation is simple, Susan said. “That was a statement I was trying to make, because I was bullied a lot at school – ‘You may have done that to me when I was younger, but you can’t do it to me anymore. I’m grown up now’,” Susan explained.
“From no pressure to having all this pressure, I found it a bit suffocating. It was such a short space of time, it felt like a demolition ball really. It really came at me like a demolition ball. The things which mattered to me before Britain’s Got Talent, they still matter to me now: my faith, my friends, family. I’m not so cooped up now; I’m part of the world,” the singer added.
