One of the most famous series of products from Corsair is their Voyager series of flash-based portable memory. The commercial was probably the best reason to buy those memories, or at least it would have brought a smile to your face; I mean, it's not every day that you advertise a flash memory which can withstand for several minutes in a microwave
oven next to a pizza, attracting the hungry IT specialists. Or seeing it get run over by a truck, that's also a two-sided commercial, appealing to the car enthusiasts and mixing in a little bit of computer technology.
However, as famous as those commercials may be, Corsair is taking into account the human factor, and that's why they have developed a new series of flash memories basing their name on the famous Survivor reality show. The Flash Survivor series are made to last, even more than their previous incarnations, the Voyager series, being extremely durable, water resistant, drop-tested a.s.o. The definitive factor for which they have such an increased durability factor is their casing, a CNC-milled 6061 Type 2 Aluminum, which is also used in manufacturing airplane components.
The flash memory itself has a cap on one side and fits into a tubular casing, which is screwed on that cap. Although the practical side of things may be affected, as you have to unscrew the casing every time you want to use it, it's that same rough design which will resist even at 200 meters below sea level. It also has an EPDM waterproof seal which helps keep the water stay out. Like the Voyager series, these flash memory products have a 10 year warranty, but that should pale in front of the tests to which these models were put to before being released onto the market. The tests included the 200 Meter Pressure Test (ISO 6425, Method 7.3.7), resistance to salt water (ISO 6425, Method 7.3.3), reliability under water (ISO 6425, Method 7.3.4), thermal shock, washing machine - one complete cycle, dryer - one complete cycle and the forklift at a 8,000 lb forklift.
