Bethesda has announced that Fallout 3 is getting a Survival Edition with some interesting stuff thrown in. Obviously, the developers really wanted to create something truly special for the fans of the series and they felt that the Collector's Edition was not quite enough.

What are you getting out of this special Survival Edition of the game? If contains everything in the Collector's Edition of Fallout 3 and a little something on the extra. There's the Vault-Tec lunch box, which makes for a perfect home for that lunch sandwich you need to take to work with you every day.

There's also a Pip Boy bobble head figurine, a 96-page art book and a DVD with a making of the feature related to the game. And, apart from these things that you get in the Collector's Edition, the Survival edition of the game also contains a digital clock shaped in the exact form of the Pip-Boy 3000. The replica you get can't do all the things it does in the game, but it sure does look good.

Pete Hines, product manger at Bethesda, wanted to go even further. He says that: "At one point, we seriously looked into the idea of building one that would actually work and interface with the game on some level. That turned out to be a huge problem technically - getting it to work on three different platforms, and 10,000 issues here and there." If built, the actual working Pip-Boy would surely have been one of the most sought after pieces of videogame memorabilia in existence but, even so, the Survival Edition incarnation is quite an interesting item.

If you want to get your hands on all the goodies mentioned above, then you have to act fast. The Survival Edition of Fallout 3 is only accessible through Amazon and the developers say that it will only be available in very small quantities, so that it really feels like a prize for all those who get it.
