Surprise: Wino and Doherty Manage to Stay Clean and Steal the Show

I really don't know what to say about this one. Really, I'm confused. I almost don't know who I am anymore. Two crack-heads in one night managed to keep themselves clean, didn't get into any trouble whatsoever and were even able to perform reasonably well. I think we should all check the skies for that fiery red cross that's supposed to show the end of the world is coming - either that or Hell has just frozen over and for some reason I didn't get the news. But it's true, all true: Wino and the Doherty were both present at last night's MTV Europe Music Awards, both performed and both managed to make a good impression.
Amy was a winner at the show with a prize voted by her peers and Doherty made it clear to the world that his latest stint in rehab did not completely take away his ability to perform - which is very good news for him and a shocker for the rest of us, in the best way possible. Doherty and his band Babyshambles performed their latest song, Delivery, at the ceremony in Munich's Olympiahalle - and were on their best behavior throughout the entire evening.
Even the show organizers (who I'm sure had feared the worst and probably had some anti-heart attack pills at hand and a team of paramedics standing by) were so relieved that they publicly stated their surprise at Doherty not doing anything to embarrass himself or his performance. "He was punctual, behaved professionally and was charming to everyone. We were pleasantly surprised", organizers said. Before the show, Doherty showed off his anti-heroin implant (where do we get one for Britney???) and went on with the old routine about how he's seen the errors of his ways and repented. "I've been trying to stay out of trouble. I'm in hibernation", he stated. Does that mean it's just a temporary condition? I hope not.
Wino was a little more hesitant, but we've already grown used to her slow(er) starts. After a kiss from her husband she went on stage to claim her prize and - typically - mumbled "thanks" and failed to make an acceptance speech, which resulted in some boos from the crowd. But she made up for it later on, when she performed her hit single "Back To Black".
Wino had also been nominated in three more categories - Best UK & Ireland Act, Album of the Year for Back To Black and Most Addictive Track for Rehab - but failed to win. Contrary to what had been announced though, Wino and the Doherty did not perform together, but Doherty did confirm that there is definitely a collaboration in the making. Well, crack-head to crack-head better sound good - I have a feeling it will - but I'm not sure it's very good news in the long run. Can you imagine these two doing drugs together? Now why did I have to think of that? Why?
And just to remind you of what Amy can do with her wonderful voice when she's sober, below you can watch her performance at the Mercury Prize ceremony earlier this fall. I'm sure you'll enjoy it - it's a truly spectacular performance.
