OnePlus launches a game changer product that isn’t a phone

Chinese phone manufacturer OnePlus has just extended its portfolio in order to include other products this week. The company teased its upcoming #OneGameChanger device a few days ago and today the veil of mystery has finally been lifted.

It’s pretty interesting that the new product comes out on April Fools’ Day, but it appears this is not a prank but a very real product by OnePlus.

The company so far made smartphones, but as of this week, the device maker is also offering you the tiny and adorable DR-1 Drone.

Now, you might be wondering why the company saw it fit to go into the drone market. We’re not sure why exactly either, but maybe OnePlus wanted to offer a cheap alternative to all the much more expensive models available for purchase today. Although you won't be able to shoot with it.

OnePlus welcomes its first drone

The DR-1 Drone is a small, bright red quadcopter with four rotors/blades (two are white and two are red). At the center of these blades presides the OnePlus logo.

On the negative side of things, you will have to use the drone’s own controller in order to be able to fly the little quadcopter and not your OnePlus One smartphone.

But look at the bright side, the device is really small (70 mm / 2.75 square and just under 30 mm / 1 inch tall) and bundles an advanced 6-axis gyroscopic stabilization system.

The drone is also outfitted with the company’s QuickCharge technology that allows for a full battery charge in under 20 minutes or so (which allows for about 5-8 minutes of flight time).

But keep in mind that this drone has no practical use after all and is just a means for users to practice their "majestic piloting skills" and have fun with it.

The DR-1 Drone is available in limited quantities

If you deem the mini-drone interesting, you should know that OnePlus One is offering it as a limited edition product. The flying quad-copter is a one-time offer, so interested parties should hurry to get their hands on the models. Especially since the DR-1 costs only €19.99 / $21.

While expanding its business to include other products, OnePlus is also currently developing its upcoming flagship phone, dubbed by the rumor mill OnePlus Two.

The handset is expected to be quite similar to the Oppo Find 7 in terms of looks, and the most recent hearsay claims the phone will be equipped with a laser focus fingerprint scanner.
