While pre-menopausal women may prefer less invasive methods to keep wrinkle-free, those over 50 turn to plastic surgery to do so. Figures from the Harley Medical Group show a boost in over 50s plastic surgery.

The quest for beauty doesn’t stop with age, that much is certain. While female employees would rather they had Botox, fillers or some other minimally intrusive procedure done, over 50s choose the more drastic alternative.

As Cosmetic Surgery Bible points out, their choice is not a mere whim but rather a necessity imposed by their own body, since they reach a stage where the other methods simply don’t work anymore.

Consequently, British surgeons report an increase in the number of post-menopausal women asking for plastic surgery to help them with their constant battle against time.

This is explained by two factors, the aforementioned e-zine says.

“During the menopause, the skin finds it harder to retain moisture thanks to a drop in oestrogen in the body. The amount of collagen and elastin produced by the skin – both elements which help the skin look plump and fresh – decreases with age,” PSB writes.

“This leads to drier skin and a slightly saggier complexion and many post-menopausal women sometimes also find they suffer from thread veins, discolored skin and acne,” the report reads.

“Combined with thinning hair and weight gain, some women are turning to cosmetic surgery in a bid to feel better and turn back the clock,” PSB says.

The other reason is to be found in the fact that more and more older female stars are just now coming clean about their past brush-offs with plastic surgery.

Just recently, Jane Fonda and Raquel Welch walked together on the red carpet – and looked so stunning they could put to shame much younger “rivals” to their beauty throne.

Both have spoken about having had work done to ensure they still look good regardless of their age. Now, regular women too realize they can be stunning past their 50s, into their 60s and even 70s.
