The team never thought about the reaction of the community

When the team behind Surgeon Simulator 2013 launched downloadable content linked to Team Fortress 2, many Half Life fans believed that an Alternate Reality Game was included that could offer clues about the elusive third entry in the Half Life series.

But Henrique Olifiers, the co-founder and the gamer-in-chief of developer Bossa, tells VG247 that his team actually had no intention to get the entire fan community involved.

He says, "As part of the ongoing puzzle, we wanted to hide a clue in a foreign language that one cannot directly translate via Google. Eastern characters are perfect for that. It happened that the Half-Life 2 Korean bug happened right at the moment we were discussing the ARG, so Korean, there you go."

He says that most of those who speculated on the Surgeon Simulator 2013 content added much more meaning to the Korean symbol than the team intended.

Olifiers adds, "it was fun to read how it all evolved and how passionate folks were about it, but it left us a bit sad to think that it might have bothered some of the most die-hard fans of Half Life, even if unintentionally. Anyway, lesson learned: no more Korean."

The team at Valve has never commented on rumors and speculation regarding Half Life 3, although fans have been requesting information about the project for a few years.

Recently, a team of DOTA 2 players who toured the Valve offices have snapped an image that shows that the team is currently working on Source engine 2 and on Left 4 Dead 3.

Sources linked to the studio have confirmed the existence of the two projects and there are also rumors that Source 2 will be used for Half Life 3 in the future, with a launch probably set to take place on the PC, the Xbox One and the PlayStation 4.
