Microsoft is now selling two different tablets, the Surface RT and the Surface Pro, and many more are coming, even though the company is still struggling to boost sales of the existing lineup.Panos Panay, the man in charge with the Surface division at Microsoft, made some brief comments about the Surface tablets at the company's US Public Sector CIO Summit in Redmond, trying to emphasize the purpose of each model.
The Surface RT was supposed to be a tablet from the get-go, Panay said according to GeekWire.com, while the Pro's goal was to play the role of the “fastest PC you pick up.”
“Surface RT was designed as a tablet first,” he said. “I want to be super-clear on what we designed Pro for. Very easy to understand. This should be the fastest PC you pick up. Period. People get confused because of the form factor. … It was designed as a PC. We often get judged as designing a heavier tablet and not enough battery life. Be very clear: What we designed was a PC.”
On the other hand, Panay refused to talk about Surface sales, even though some unofficial reports pointed to only 1.5 million sold units since launch.
