Redmond-based software giant Microsoft has been long rumored to plan the launch of a Surface Phone, something that did not happen so far, but that might become a reality now that the company bought Nokia.

While it might take a while before such a device is actually built and brought to the market, this does not prevent enthusiasts from dreaming of the day when the smartphone is made official.

Of course, there’s no info available on what the phone would have to offer and what it would look like, but one designer took their time to envision what users could receive in case Microsoft is indeed building such a device.

Called Surface Phone 2, said concept was published online by Phone Designer on its Facebook account, and promises a very thin design.

According to its maker, the concept phone is merely 7mm thin, and features a 4.7-inch full HD 1080p touchscreen display. Furthermore, as MyNokiaBlog notes, the smartphone sports a minimal bezel.

The handset’s case resembles that of Microsoft’s Surface 2, and it should do so. After all, the designer says that he/she was inspired by the looks of the tablet when envisioning the smartphone.

The concept device features the same straight lines as the slate, while packing a microUSB port at the bottom, and the power button and 3.5mm jack at the top.

On the back, it sports a camera with flash, along with the Surface logo. The volume rocker can be seen on the handset’s side, where what appears to be a dedicated camera button is also present.

The lock screen of the Surface Phone 2 concept shows both the clock and the date, which is Monday, April 21, which would be next year.

This also means that the smartphone could be powered by Windows Phone 8.1, considering that the upcoming OS version has been long rumored to be announced in the beginning of 2014.

One way or the other, the Surface Phone 2 is only a concept for the time being, and it might never become official, at least not in the form that this designer imagined it. Even so, you can still admire the phone, courtesy of the photos embedded below.
