Microsoft's Surface 2 received another firmware update this month as part of the Patch Tuesday rollout, but it turns out that many users are actually experiencing lots of problems after deploying the new version.

Posts on the company's Community forums reveal that a number of Surface 2 tablets are getting a blue screen of death after installing the new firmware, with Microsoft saying that it's now investigating the problems.

“The Surface 2 'bluescreen-ed' yesterday during the December update. In fact, it 'blue-screen' on every patch Tuesday! Everytime! And then it would boot loop giving you an impression it got bricked. Had to force-off and restart,” one user explained.

While there's no workaround available at this point, another user explained that after the firmware update, his tablet's battery is draining very fast.

“Now I've noticed that my surface 2's battery usage on standby is extremely high. In less than 2 days, it used up 70% of the battery and then carried on until the battery was flat (not shown in the battery report),” he said.

Surprisingly, another affected Surface 2 buyer mentioned in a post that he got his tablet replaced due to this problem, even though it's pretty clear that it's all just a software issue.

“I got mine replaced after I showed them the problem. It was reproducible. While the ones on their floor didn't have the issue (they are all updated with December patches). I will update again if the replaced unit have the same issue,” the user posted.

As mentioned, Microsoft already confirmed that it's investigating the issue, so expect a new update to be delivered to Surface 2 tablets once a fix is developed. In case you haven't yet updated the firmware on your tablet, it might be a good idea to wait a little bit until Microsoft provides more info on this.
