Supreme Commander in Late 2006?

The game is near feature complete and could go into beta testing later this year

This year's E3 presentation of Gas Powered Games introduced the audience to its upcoming real strategy game Supreme Commander. The public was thrilled at the idea of a Total Annihilation spiritual progeny, with the game promising high level of detail, hundreds of units engaged in planetary warfare and tiny assault bots get trampled by towering mega units.

While the title is still in its early developing stages, Supreme Commander HQ fan site is reporting the game is nearly feature complete. The development
team agrees that no new features will be added to this release although extra features may still be suggested for later installments. Supposedly a playable demo is due to be released prior to game launch. There are four tech levels, the last being still under development. It's also intriguing that Gas Powered Games included a split screen option for wide screen monitors. The player will control two camera views as it will pretty much act like dual monitor functionality. Here's what one of the Gas Powered Games forum moderator had to say about it:

"Feature Complete merely means the bare-bones structure of each feature to be in the game have been implemented. Not that the features are fully-functional and refined. Doesn't mean the sound, AI, UI or art assets are close to done either - merely that the framework for them are in place. The 2-split on one screen is accurate, I believe (I've never tried it). Although I wasn't there, I've been told Chris didn't actually say "demo before the game ships". Instead, I've been told what he said "beta near the end of the year". As I've mentioned before, "beta" and "demo" are not the same thing, although both are (hopefully) playable."

According to Chris Taylor at Comic-Con all that's left is debugging known issues and gameplay balancing as a whole. Later next month, the developers will be showcasing a demo for a brand new game build which supposedly looks much better, at Leipzig Germany Game Convention.
