Microsoft’s Windows Phone 8 operating system has been around for less than half a year, yet those who purchased devices running under it might want to know that support for the OS is set to end on July 8, 2014.

The info was posted on Microsoft’s support website, and falls in line with the company’s previous commitment to 18 months of support for its mobile OS flavors, Plaffo reports. The WP8 platform has entered its support lifecycle on December 14, 2012.

Furthermore, Microsoft’s website also explains that the new Windows Phone 7.8 platform release will end its support cycle on September 9, 2014, after entering the books on February 9, 2013.

The Redmond-based software giant also explains on said website that wireless carriers and manufactures may have control over the updates that devices receive.
