“Superman” is getting a reboot and Warner Bros. is working very fast on the project: it already has a director, a producer and a writer. All in all, things are looking up.

Though only last week word got out that Darren Aronofsky (“Requiem for a Dream,” “Pi” and “The Wrestler”) was the favorite to land the job of helming the film, it turns out the winner was Zack Snyder.

Entertainment Weekly’s PopWatch has confirmation from Snyder himself that he will direct the new “Superman,” while Chris Nolan will produce on a script by David S. Goyer.

Warners’ intention has always been that of making of the “Superman” franchise something new, darker, edgier but still recognizable to early fans, like the new “Batman,” so Goyer is a perfect choice in this sense.

“‘Super-awesome. Super-excited.’ Filmmaker Zack Snyder says the phrase at least three times in a brief conversation about his new film project: Superman, to be produced by Christopher Nolan, the director of Inception and The Dark Knight, and written by David S. Goyer, who also penned Batman Begins,” EW says.

Snyder will begin work on the super-secret project from Warners as soon as he’s done with “Suckerpunch,” which will be out in theaters next spring, the publication informs.

As of now, further details on the project are not available, but it is known that it has no cast attached just yet – though speculation online about who should play Superman has already started.

Snyder himself can’t say what direction the movie will take – but he can promise it will be nothing like “Watchmen,” which EW describes as “post-modern” in its approach to the original comic book.

“They are totally different characters, totally different worlds. I wouldn’t want to compare them at this point,” Snyder says.

“I’ve followed Superman over the years. I wouldn’t say I was a huge devotee, but I’ve kept an eye on the character in the pop culture, and as the pop culture has regarded him, for the past 10 years, especially. I think there’s a real opportunity here. He’s in the perfect place to do something,” the famous director says of Superman.

In other words, the Superman franchise can pull the same feat as Batman in terms of reinventing itself.

“Think of where Batman was when Chris took that on earlier in the decade. I think Superman is in a very similar place, in terms of being available and in terms of his relationship to where the culture was at that time. Superman is right there. He’s ready. And can I be any more cryptic?” Snyder says.

In a separate post, EW also offers a list of potential candidates for the role of Superman, the superhero to make red underwear as outerwear look this cool: Henry Cavill is favorite, with 2-to-1 odds of being offered the part.
