The gold and silver coins are Canada's way to pay homage to the superhero

Folks at the Royal Canadian Mint are proud to introduce the world to a brand new set of collectible coins especially created to honor wildly popular comic books hero and world savior Superman.

The gold and silver coins, depicted in the photo gallery below, look just like any other on one side. Thus, their heads are as normal as it gets. Their Tails, however, show Superman looking all cool and flexing his muscles.

So how many coins to the set?

This latest Royal Canadian Mint collection comprises a total of four coins. Of these, three are silver, and one is gold. Probably to add to their appeal, the Superman images that they show are colored ones.

The first of these two coins has a face-value of $15, and costs roughly $90 CAD (some US$82.6 / €63.8). The colored Superman image it displays comes from the cover of Action Comics #419.

One other coin, whose face value is $10 and which sells for $70 CAD (roughly US$64.3 / €50), displays an Action Comics #1 image of Superman lifting a car.

The third silver coin has a face value of $20 and a price tag of $110 CAD (about US$101/ €78). The image on it comes from the Superman Annual #1 cover.

Lastly, the gold coin, which sells for $750 CAD (approximately US$689 / €532) and has a face value of $100, depicts the famous “S” on Superman's costume.

According to Slash Gear, the Canadian Royal Mint produced 10,000 copies of each of the silver coins included in this collection. The gold coin, on the other hand, was made in merely 2,000 copies, which makes it significantly more difficult to come by.

Where can I get one?

If you're desperate to get your hands on all four of these coins, be sure to sit down and take a deep breath before reading on. Now, here's the sucky part about this piece of news: apparently, three of the coins are already sold out.

Thus, the only coin that is still available for purchase is the silver one showing Superman flexing its muscles in flight. It's still unclear why this coin turned out to be way less popular than the other ones, but then again, there is little doubt that it too will sell out in the days to come.

Not Canada's first time

Interestingly enough, it looks like this set of collectible coins is not the first of its kind for Canada. On the contrary, it was last year when the country released one coin collection meant to honor Superman. How and why the country ended up being this fond of the Man of Steel remains a mystery.
