Gamers do not have the money to buy the new devices

Superdata, an analysis firm, believes that the console market is headed for a big crash that might be similar to that seen in 1983 because the market is saturated and most players are not interested in picking up new hardware.

The launches of the Xbox One and the PlayStation 4 might make the situation worse because they are asking players who already own an average of 2.6 devices to spend even more money.

A report quoted by VG247 states, “Industry veterans will remember the crash of 1983, when the games market was saturated with hardware devices. Today, the industry runs a similar risk, as a higher-than-ever console installed base, consumers may be resistant to adding more hardware to their living rooms.”

Superdata believes that players are more interested in flexible gaming experiences like those offered via the PC, smartphones and Internet based titles.

The Xbox One and the PlayStation 4 will both be launched during November.
