Clash of Clans creator Supercell has released Boom Beach, a combat strategy game where players wage epic battles (yes, again with the epic battles) this time against the evil Blackguard.

“Take your expeditionary force to beautiful paradise islands invaded by the enemy. Fight for every beachhead, free enslaved islanders and explore the uncharted archipelago. The fight becomes a race to harness the ancient powers hidden on the islands. Are you ready for the BOOM?” reads the game’s description.

It’s basically Clash of Clans 2.0, a more advanced warfare game with cartoonish artwork and some admittedly jaw-dropping visuals.

Key features include the ability to play with thousands of other players, raid their bases, and rob them of their riches, and missions where you must attack island bases controlled by the evil Blackguard and engage in boss fights. The game even has a mystical side where players are tasked with exploring the power of ancient statues and Life Crystals.

As usual, Supercell notes that “Boom Beach is completely free to play. However, some game items can also be purchased for real money. If you don't want to use this feature, please disable in-app purchases in your device's settings.” In other words, keep your kids away from those in-app purchases.

Supercell apparently wants to set high standards for developers who monetize on the IAP model and says that its Terms of Services and Privacy Policy only permit people 13 years or over of age to download and play the game “without parental consent.”

Apple has been hard pressed to become more transparent regarding the way some apps charge money for in-app purchases. The company agreed and has provided additional documentation and tools to make it easier to avoid accidental in-app transactions by kids left alone with their parents’ iDevices.

It seems some developers are now following suit. Who better to set an example if not a company whose profits come entirely from the freemium model? Just like with Clash of Clans, Boom Beach is a free game that requires the player to spend “diamonds” (the in-game currency). When you run out of gems, a pile of diamonds can be acquired via in-app purchase for $4.99 / €4,49.

Download Boom Beach on any iOS 7 device, including iPhone 4 (and newer), iPad 2 (and newer), and iPod touch fifth generation. Supported languages include English, French, German, Italian, Japanese, Korean, Portuguese, Russian, Simplified Chinese, and Spanish.
