Superb Mini Server, a Linux operating system based on Slackware 14.0 and manageable through the Webmin web-based interface, is now at version 2.0.7.

The developers of this Linux distribution don't do it justice with the name they picked for it, because Mini doesn't really describe it. The server is much more than a minimal distro with just a few tools and important packages.

“SMS stands for Superb Mini Server. A Linux operating system console based and manageable through Webmin web-based interface... Although described as a mini server, have all the features of a powerful server such as apache2, sendmail, postfix, spamassassin, clamav, squid, iptables, MailScanner, mysql, cups and lot of other server packages.”

“SMS also features TorrentFlux, a powerful php based bit torrent client that can be managed from anywhere, making this server not only server administrators interest, but simple users too that want to download torrents safe and secure,” reads the official website.

In Superb Mini Server 2.0.7, server packages have been updated to the latest stable versions and many others have been added. One of the most important updates that have been made is for the Linux kernel, which is now at version 3.10.41. Along with this build of the kernel, the developers have also integrated a number of security fixes and the new OpenSSL 1.0.1h package.

OpenSSL is an integral part of any server and the developers had to make sure that the latest security fixes were implemented. This release comes fairly quickly after the OpenSSL developer managed to plug a few new holes, not as important as Heartbleed, but which caused some problems nonetheless.

The developers explain that they have decided to stick with PHP 5.3 for the moment, but users will find PHP 5.4 in the repositories if they need it. Also, the Mozilla packages have been removed because they were incompatible with SMS, Postfix has been upgraded to version 2.11.1, the SSH package now creates an extra key, bash has been updated to version 4.3.011, curl is now at version 7.37.0, mysql has been updated to version 5.5.38, phpmyadmin is now at version 4.2.2, and samba has been updated to version 4.1.8.

These are just a few of the updated packages for this release. A complete list with all the changes and updates can be found in the official announcement. You can download Superb Mini Server 2.0.7 right now from Softpedia, but remember that you can also upgrade from an older version.
