Spate, a 2D platformer developed and published by Eric Provan and Ayyo Games, has been released on Steam for Linux.

Spate is a superbly designed game made by a couple of guys that used to work for Disney Animation. Their experience is showing in the artwork and in the graphic, making Spate one of the most interesting games on Linux.

“It's a platformer with a strong focus on story and atmosphere. It's as much Mario as it is Dear Esther. Spate is the journey of one man’s struggle and descent into madness that is fueled by his addiction to absinthe following the tragic death of his daughter,” read the official announcement.

The Linux system requirements Spate mirror the quality of the game and they rather high, even for a simple platformer: an Ubuntu and Mint operating system, a 2.0 GHz CPU (a dual-core CPU is recommended), 4 GB of RAM, a dedicated video card with shader model 3.0 support (ATI Radeon 2400 or higher / NVIDIA 8600M), and 2 GB of available HDD space.

The game only provides a single player experience and it comes with full controller support. You can find more details about the superb Spate 2D platformer on the Steam for Linux website.
