Iomega, an expert in digital storage and content management solutions, has announced the new Iomega SuperHero Backup and Charger for iPhone, a solution for those who’ve experienced “the panic and despair of losing their contacts and photos on their iPhone”, the company said.

Iomega's new SuperHero Backup and Charger for iPhone is comprised of a compact docking station and an iOS app.

In order to make proper use of the $70 gadget, owners must first preload their iPhone with the SuperHero application.

Don’t bother checking for it in the App Store. It hasn't been uploaded / approved yet. Iomega says it will announce availability soon.

Nonetheless, those who are interested in buying the solution when it’s out can take the first steps here, by learning how to use it.

Iomega says that when an iPhone loaded with the SuperHero app is placed in the SuperHero dock, the app launches automatically.

The software displays the option of backing up the contacts and photos found on the device while also charging it.

To allow multiple iDevice owners to be “saved” by SuperHero, users can name their iPhones from within the app. The names are stored on the SD card used for backups.

In order to save space, ackups only include incremental contacts and photos, following the initial backup of an iPhone's contacts and photos.

Content can be restored to a new iPhone by docking the new device to the SuperHero dock and selecting the “restore” button, Iomega said.

"Our internal research and personal experiences tell us there are many iPhone users across the globe that have their entire lives on their phones and yet they rarely if ever plug their phone into their computer and back up it up," said Jonathan Huberman, president of Iomega.

"For millions and millions of busy iPhone users, Iomega's SuperHero Backup and Charger is the ideal alternative to a frantic cry to all your Facebook friends to resend the contact info because you lost your phone, much less never being able to retrieve those unique photos on the phone," Huberman added.

"Iomega has created an inexpensive, practical insurance policy for every iPhone user that values the data on their phones as much or more than the phone itself," Huberman concluded.

Iomega plans to unveil its new SuperHero Backup and Charger for iPhone this week, January 6-9, 2011, at the Consumer Electronics Show in Las Vegas.
