They are SO-DIMM slots with 1.35V power draw and 204-pin design

Laptop memory is a bit tricky to make, in a sense, because it needs to be as good as the modules used in desktops, while taking up less space, draining less energy and making less heat. Super Talent has just unveiled two suitable models.

Granted, mobile RAM continues to work at far lower frequency than what desktop RAM is capable of achieving, but still in line with regular JEDEC specs.

Besides, technically speaking, desktop DIMMs employ the same clocks of 1,066 MHz, 1,333 MHz, 1,600 MHz and 1,866 MHz. It's just that high-end OEMs like to release seriously overclocked products more often, and that's not something that can be done on the laptop front due to cooling and energy efficiency reasons.

Anyway, the two newest modules from Super Talent, W160SB4GSL and W160SB8GSL, are pretty much the same, with 1,600 MHz frequency, PC3-12800 data rate, CL11 latency, and 1.35V. It's just that the former has a capacity of 4 GB (thanks to the use of 2 Gb DRAMs), while the latter is an 8 GB SO-DIMM (4 Gb chips populating the SO-DIMM).

You won't find them up for sale anywhere though. They will only ship as part of pre-designed and equipped laptops (notebooks, ultrabooks, gaming notebooks, and mobile workstations).
